NMI project WOUNDSENS - 23/10/2024 Wound monitoring using sensory nanofibres Monitoring the condition of chronic, non-healing wounds requires wound dressings to be changed at short, regular intervals. In the EU-funded WOUNDSENS project, researchers at the NMI in Reutlingen are using electrospinning to produce novel types of wound dressings. These consist of biosensory fibres that send information about the condition of the wound to the outside, thereby improving inflammation detection.https://www.gesundheitsindustrie-bw.de/en/article/news/wound-monitoring-using-sensory-nanofibres
Press release - 23/05/2024 "They heal wounds, allow bones to grow and calm inflammation" MWK funds cell therapy research into mesenchymal stromal cells with 600,000 euros The Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research and Arts (MWK) is supporting medical researchers at Ulm University with start-up funding totalling 600,000 euros. The aim is to establish an EU consortium for the broad therapeutic use of mesenchymal stromal cells. The funding is being awarded as part of the "BEGIN - Participation in major European projects and initiatives" programme.https://www.gesundheitsindustrie-bw.de/en/article/press-release/they-heal-wounds-allow-bones-grow-and-calm-inflammation-mwk-funds-cell-therapy-research-mesenchymal-stromal-cells-600000-euros
Press release - 18/04/2024 Collagen: Researchers at the NMI decipher how it works in medical treatment Collagen has been used in ophthalmology since the 1990s, particularly in the treatment of corneal defects. However, why and how this technique works was only known in theory. Researchers at the NMI Natural and Medical Sciences Institute in Reutlingen led by Lu Fan have found the necessary evidence and can now reliably explain how this technique works.https://www.gesundheitsindustrie-bw.de/en/article/press-release/collagen-researchers-nmi-decipher-how-it-works-medical-treatment
Press release - 26/10/2023 Innovative research aims to improve wound healing and cancer therapy Jun.-Prof. Dr. Priscilla Briquez, junior professor at the Department of General and Visceral Surgery at the Freiburg University Medical Center and member of the Medical Faculty at the University of Freiburg, has received a European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant from the European Commission. Her DRESSCODE project will receive a total of 1.5 million euros funding for five years.https://www.gesundheitsindustrie-bw.de/en/article/press-release/innovative-forschung-soll-wundheilung-und-krebstherapie-verbessern
Press release - 13/07/2023 Intelligent rubber materials Wearable medical devices, such as soft exoskeletons that provide support for stroke patients or controlled drug delivery patches, have to be made of materials that can adapt intelligently and autonomously to the wearer's movements and to changing environmental conditions. These are the type of autonomously switchable polymer materials that have recently been developed by researchers at the University of Stuttgart and the University of…https://www.gesundheitsindustrie-bw.de/en/article/press-release/intelligent-rubber-materials
Press release - 17/01/2023 Sugar-based inhibitors disarm the pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa The hospital pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa requires the sugar-binding proteins LecA and LecB to form biofilms as well as to attach to and penetrate host cells. These so-called lectins are therefore suitable targets for active substances to combat Pseudomonas infections. Researchers from Saarbrücken and Freiburg have now produced potent inhibitors for LecA and LecB that are more stable and soluble than previous drug candidates.https://www.gesundheitsindustrie-bw.de/en/article/press-release/zuckerbasierte-inhibitoren-entwaffnen-den-krankheitserreger-pseudomonas-aeruginosa
RHEACELL GmbH - 28/07/2022 Innovative stem cell therapy for chronic wounds Non-healing, chronically inflamed wounds can be very painful and carry the risk of serious infections. The Heidelberg company RHEACELL has developed a unique drug based on ABCB5-positive mesenchymal stem cells that helps reprogramme the relevant immune cells and promote healing.https://www.gesundheitsindustrie-bw.de/en/article/news/innovative-stem-cell-therapy-chronic-wounds
Dossier - 15/10/2013 Adult stem cells hope for regenerative therapies Adult stem cells have the lifelong ability to generate new specialised cells. They secure the continuous replenishment of cells therefore enabling the constant replacement of dying cells with new ones. Progress in the characterisation isolation and specific differentiation of adult stem cells over recent years raises hopes for the future use of the cells in the therapy of degenerative diseases. Knowledge about adult stem cells also has the…https://www.gesundheitsindustrie-bw.de/en/article/dossier/adult-stem-cells-hope-for-regenerative-therapies
